The wine of Sant Mori (Alt Empordà)

Red Wine, created by Jordi Oliver Conti

AMUNT (UP), the new wine of Sant Mori. By the end of 2015, the owners of a one-hectare vineyard of the town where I live, Sant Mori, ask me to take care of it, to make a wine and to market it..

The vineyard is planted with the Syrah variety. I propose to make a blend of this variety, plus some garnatxa and monastrell, in a very clay and productive terrain, favored by the proximity of the Fluvià river and marked by the frequent winds of Tramontana. The strains are re-seeded with the new varieties and we make the first harvest in 2016. The wine goes through French oak barrels and is put into the bottle on August 1, 2017.

The costume and the drawing: The name AMUNT (UP) seduces me because it is a project with aspirations to go as far as possible, rooted in the land and associated with the tradition of castles. We contact Roser Capdevila (author of “The Triplets”) with whom we agree immediately and who makes the drawing of the label.

Castellers: The unit (of three varieties); the strength (of the syrah and monastrell varieties), the fact of agreeing (blending the three varieties) and making pineapple (drinking the wine with people, sharing it).

Costa Brava: the land where the vineyard is does not belong to the DO Empordà but in the Alt Empordà, so we name it: Costa Brava wine

The wine: Very ripe and traditionally made with controlled temperature and frequent remounting in order to extract the maximum potential from the skin and passed through French oak wood seeking to protect the fruit from the grapes and give a touch of wood and toast to the you.

It is spectacularly aromatic, with toasted notes, lots of black fruit (blackberries, blueberries, prunes macerated in alcohol).

In the mouth it is strong and full-bodied, with presence of well-balanced tannins.

Very bulky (full mouth) and with a long persistence (after drinking the memory of the wine remains long).

A pleasure for the senses, for demanding palates.
